SHE'S the oestrogen that balances the male egos on Australian Idol, but Marcia Hines yesterday threatened to quit the pop star search program next year.

Tensions between the four-person judging panel boiled over on air during Sunday night's show, when the diva turned on Mark Holden and Ian `Dicko' Dickson in defence of contestant Ben McKenzie.

Hines was dubbed `Thumper' by Dicko after her animated spray, during which she declared she had the ``shits'' with Holden, pounding the desk several times to make her point.

But while Channel 10 were quick to laugh off Hines comments, made during a radio interview the following morning with colleague Kyle Sandilands and his 2Day FM co-host Jackie O, it was Holden again who antagonised her into making the remarks.

Forced to respond to Holden's suggestions she should be the one to leave the show if producers returned to the three-man panel, Hines told listeners she was planning to leave.

"I'm leaving (because) I don't like being in company that don't like me, Mark,'' she said pointedly.

Holden made a grovelling apology of sorts, pledging his affection for Hines on air.

A Ten spokeswoman was left to bury the hatchet too on his behalf.

"As far as the network is concerned, all four judges are working well. And or research reflects that.

" We have spoken to Marcia today and she's okay. Probably just over some of her colleagues,'' the publicist added.
