Mississippi singers won't have to travel far to audition for Season 6 of American Idol, Fox's hit TV reality show.
Auditions will be held Aug. 21 at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex in Alabama and on Sept. 3 at the FedEx Forum in Memphis.
Tryouts also will be held in San Antonio on Friday, East Rutherford, N.J., on Monday, Minneapolis on Sept. 8 and Seattle on Sept. 19.
Birmingham's Taylor Hicks, the gray-haired soulful singer, won Season 5's competition. He signed a $1 million recording contract with 19 Recordings Unlimited and also agreed to a book deal with Random House's Crown that earned him a reported $750,000.
The new American Idol season begins in January.
